Bojenje i označavanje,
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
This is the review of the latest Zvezda model in 1/48 scale, which is Jak-9D (4815), which was officially unveiled this year.
Fighter plane Jak-9D, with the extended range and engine M-105PF is one of the most significant modifications of the Jak-9 plane. The need for this type of fighter arose when the Red Army started making significant breakthroughs of enemy lines, and there was a danger of losing air cover during fast offensive maneuvers.
Range extension is achieved by mounting four 480 kilogram fuel tanks. The oil reserve was increased to 48 kg and takeoff mass increased to 3117 kilograms in total.
Serial production lasted from March 1943 till June 1946 and totally 3058 units of Jak-9D were built.
Combat experience showed that Jak-9D had advantage over Me-109G-2 and Fw-190A-8 in turns and horizontal maneuver up to 3500 m height, and with half of the fuel spent it was superior even in vertical maneuver.
The model is a nice addition to the WWII Soviet fighter collection in the popular scale of 1/48.
The complete model is created using 3D technology and styrene is injected using tools for large scale production, in dark grey styrene.
Boxing is typical for Zvezda, with painted cardboard wrapping box illustrated in full color, which hides the sturdy top opening cardboard box in which there are 198 parts, distributed over five trees in grey styrene and one transparent tree for cockpit parts.
The quality of parts is excellent, with panel lines in negative, and service hatches and rivets being very subtle.
Pilot seat is accurately reproduced and as such deserves extra work in highlighting detail for open cockpit display. Unfortunately there are no seatbelts in the package, so one should obtain some aftermarket set. Tree VK 105 PF with pilot figure and engine is identical to that of Jak-3 and Petlyakov Pe-2 models from before and is of high detail. Parts breakdown enables the option of completely open and accessible engine, so that all installation lines and weaponry are visible. That is a wise and good move on behalf of Zvezda team. Transparent cockpit cover is given in segments, windshield and fixed back cabin cover, whilst the middle, sliding section is given in two copies so one can build in open or closed configuration. The wings and stabilizers are given with command surfaces not attached, so you can place them according to personal preference.
Landing gear also is given in two different variants in high level of detail of tires. If one decides to build this model as in flight than the stand should be obtained elsewhere since it is not supplied by Zvezda.
Painting and marking
On the decal sheet there are three options for marking and with colored instruction sheet on two A4 page combined with Zvezda/Tamiya painting instructions.
There are decal sets for three different planes: Jak-9D piloted by Marcel Lefevre, second piloted by Michail Ivanovich Grib and third by Nicholas Fyodorovich Denchik. The stickers are most likely printed by Begemot, although there is no direct evidence to confirm this. The density and clarity of color on the stickers is excellent and the finishing lacquer over them is subtle.
Conclusion
Zvezda produced and released highly detailed model of this very important WWII Soviet fighter. A lot of detail and wide selection in assembling and painting this model will no doubt please many modelers.
