O maketi:

After a series of problems back in 1965 the new Soviet four-barreled SPAAG with caliber of 23 mm and coupled with the radar saw the light of the day. It was named “Shilka” ZSU 23 x 4. Soon after it entered serial production and was introduced to units. During 1973 the new version was introduced with much more reliable loading mechanism and more efficient fire control. It was named “Beryoza”, but the name “Shilka” persisted in use. This newer model remains in service even today. It was involved in almost every conflict up to nowadays.
“Shilka” was produced from 1964 to 1982 and around 6500 copies are built which were/are used by more than 40 countries.
Some technical specs: max. weight 19 tons, speed on the road 50 km/h, off-road 30 km/h, radar RPK 2 “Tobol” with detection range of 20 km, tracking range of 18 km, and target lock time of 20-30 sec, vertical gun range 3000 m.
About the model:
This “new” model from Zvezda is a repack of the Dragon model from 1991. Somewhat strange but good choice, considering the importance of this vehicle in almost all the world conflicts after WWII and the number of users.
The model comes packed in a sturdy box of 41 cm x 24 cm x 8 cm in size, in which there are 389 parts. Parts are casted in grey plastic and are extremely clean considering the age of the moulds. There is a colored paper with paint schemes, as well as the sheet of decals within the box. There are six marking options, all parts are distributed on seven trees with addition of two hull halves. Two trees contain links for the tracks.
Accidentally, I had an opportunity to compare parts of this Zvezda and Dragon model from 1992. The only difference I managed to find is the part No. 32 in Zvezda kit (side of the turret) which does not come in Dragon box. With all that being said, nothing new, but always attractive and interesting, this time in combination with excellent decals and marking options.
I would recommend this model to all fans of Russian armor. I would like to thank Zvezda for providing the model for this review.
