Opremljen krstarećim raketama i nuklearnim bombama, Tu-95MS služi kao ključna komponenta ruske nuklearne komponente strateškog odvraćanja. Uprkos za današnje vreme zastarelom dizajnu, a posle provedene modernizacije “Medved” ostaje snažan simbol ruske vojne moći a ujedno i relikt hladnoratovske tehnologije. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Tupolev Tu-95MS – Russian strategic bomber in 1:144 scale is the product of Russian company Zvezda under catalogue number 7038 and is a product from 2024. Tupolev Tu-95MS BEAR (NATO designation) is a strategic long range bomber and projectile carrier developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and is still in service with VKS Russia. The plane’s earlier designation was Tupolev Tu-20, a successor of Tu-4 and Tu-85, with the first flight back in 1952. Anti-submarine and sea patrol version is designated Tu-142. Numerous military versions, as well as passenger plane Tupolev Tu-114 were developed on the base of Tu-95. Best known for its recognizable design of swept wings and counter-rotating propellers Tu-95MS has four turboprop Kuznetsov NK-12 engines and is one of the fastest turboprop planes in the world. Its western “adversary” is, also venerable, Boeing B-52. Armed with cruise missiles and nuclear bombs, Tu-95MS serves as a key component of Russian nuclear strategic deterrence component. In the contrary to its obsolete design, after modernization Bear remains powerful symbol of Russian military power and also a Cold War technology relic. The model This is not the first time Zvezda issued the model of this plane in 1:144. Back in 2013 Zvezda repacked Revell Tu-95 from 1992, a model with significantly lower quality and detail level. The model with catalogue number 7038 is completely new product with modern design. Double box contains five trees with grey styrene and one in transparent. According to the boxart info the box contains 201 styrene parts, which enable building a 34 cm plane. As an add-on there is a Zvezda stand which gives the in-flight appearance to the plane. All the panels are very nice and precise with fine thin back edges of wings and tail section. The fuselage is casted in a standard manner, with the left and right half, and without the vertical rudder which is given as a separate part. Cockpit is rather detailed for this scale with all the basic components, whereas transparent parts are really transparent and thin. Landing gear is highly detailed, with the ie. nose leg having seven highly intricate parts, while the wheels have a lot of detail on the rims. The model can be built with the landing gear closed and then put on the stand. Fuselage, wings as well as all the four engines fit snuggly during assembly, and only the minimal amount of putty may be required. All four engines have nicely and sharply casted exhausts, which adds to the realism of the model. What is of particular interest is the completing the counter rotating propellers and spinner of the engine, with particular blades of the propellers (all 32 blades) which should carefully be glued in their positions. The smart design eases this process with connection points in the base of propeller, which can be connected to the spinner in only one way, therefore providing the realistic movement of every blade. If everything is assembled carefully the propellers will be free and can be spun in counter direction. Instruction sheet is rich in illustration and easy to understand, printed on A4 paper, whilst painting and marking is given in full color on the bent A3 sheet. Color codes are in Tamiya and Zvezda paints. Markings are for three different planes from VKS Russia (Vozdushno Kosmicheskie Sili – Воздушно-космические силы) from different time periods and represent the following planes: • Tu-95MS “Krasnojarsk”, RF-94123, Long range air force VKS, 2018 • Tu-95MS “Dubna”, RF-94122, Long range air force VKS, 2015 • Tu-95MS “Samara”, RF-94121, Long range air force of Russian VVS, 2009. from exhibition MAKS 2009 and operational use, 2014, before merging of Russian Air force with Russian Cosmic Defense units in what is now known as VKS Russia. Decals are of excellent print quality and in correct color register, and besides the markings for the three planes above provides a lot of service labels with interesting “Deicing” label on all 32 blades of propellers. Conclusion Upon the first glance, Zvezda produced one modern, highly detailed and well-designed model of this imposing plane in 1:144 scale, therefore enabling modelers to have in their collection a model of a plane that successfully flies for 72 years.
