…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Mil Mi-8, is the Russian medium transport helicopter with two engines. It was first introduced to Soviet Airforce back in 1967, and since then it has been produced in more than 12 000 units in various models. It is used in over 50 countries and was involved in all the armed conflicts since its introduction. Mi-8 is a mass produced helicopter which is in great number of different models used operationally for different roles in many countries. Without further going into technical and historical detail, since a lot can be found in literature and online, I would jump to the model description. About the model Announced for a long time and eagerly expected model of this legendary aircraft in 1/48 scale, saw its first light at the end of 2022. It comes packed in the standard sturdy box with nice artwork of it flying. The model comes in a quality light grey plastic, with more than 350 parts, which gives a hint on the amount of detail. The whole interior is given with detailed cargo area and this can be seen on photos and instruction sheet. Cockpit is also very detailed with decal set, which can be replaced with some other 3D decal set. This time, however, rivets are present on the fuselage, which was a drawback on the Mi-24 Hind models. Rivets are rather small, so one must be careful not to sand them down. Various armament is also provided. As for the painting and marking, everything is as usual with Zvezda and Tamiya codes up to one’s preferences. In the markings section there are four different marking sets. What peaked my interest are the Cuban and Slovakian (SFOR mission in Bosnia in 2022) markings. Zvezda has surely scored with this model choice. This legendary aircraft simply didn’t exist on the market in this quality in 1/48 scale. The WIP of building this model will be available and covered in great detail on our Facebook page and website.
